Helen Shepherd is a freelance dance artist, workshop facilitator and admin assistant. She joined DanceSyndrome in 2015 and completed Dance by Example –DanceSyndrome’s unique training programme in 2016. Helen has gone on to achieve great things with DanceSyndrome. Starting as a volunteer dance artist in 2016 she went onto paid work co-leading dance workshops and performing with the DS collective.

Helen had a varied career before working with Dancesyndrome. She has worked as freelance community artist running arts and crafts workshops all over the North West. She was also involved in long term community projects to help improve the lives of children and their families in deprived areas.
Helen has also worked with adults with learning disabilities for many years, running workshops in the subjects of craft, woodwork, I.T, pottery, dance music & movement, life skills and relaxation and wellbeing. Helen has a naturally caring nature and is excellent at enabling and supporting people who happen to have disabilities.
Helen works with lots of other organisations alongside DanceSyndrome.

These include:
Phab – a national charity that supports adults and children of all abilities to enjoy life together. Helen runs a monthly Phab club for children in Whalley, Lancashire.
Meet n Match – a dating and friendship agency for people with learning disabilities.
Castle Supported Living – Helen has recently started working as a support worker for Castle Supported Living.
Helen said “I absolutely love working in all these different roles. There is something special about DanceSyndrome and I have been embraced into the dancing family where I have been nurtured and encouraged to develop my dancing skills & technique. This has led to performing with the DS Collective I feel very lucky to be in this position with so much love and support.”

As you can see Helen is loving life right now and really thrives at enabling and empowering people of all abilities to live their life to the fullest.
