Performances
Over this year, DanceSyndrome has had a strong focus on performance work and developing our dance technique and choreographic skills through our dance development days. We plan to increase our performance work over the next year, so get ready for what’s to come in 2015!
DanceSyndrome perform at a variety of public and private events that range from community showcases and festivals to conferences, mainly across the Northwest but also throughout the UK. DS opens eyes. A conference and community event allows us to share with you and demonstrate to you the power of dance, our own ways of working, the journey we are on and the outcomes for us and for society. We enjoy working with universities where we can influence students, the future workers in dance or performing arts and social sciences.
In 2013/14 we have delivered performances at:
Preston Pride
A unique opportunity, which saw DanceSyndrome performing in the open air on Preston Flag Market. Originally we were planned to only have a stall but with a gap in the programme our dance leader Peter bravely stepped in to deliver a mass participation section to the hundreds of people that were there!
Linkability 25th Anniversary
Our dance leaders Jen and Peter entertained the crowd at this glamorous black tie event, held at Rivington Barn on 2nd October
Preston Community Day
DanceSyndrome warmed up the crowds brilliantly in what was a true celebration of Preston’s varied communities, held on Preston Flag Market on 30th August. The organisers said “our infectious style got everyone on their feet!!”
Lancashire Health Expo
Everyone was feeling the benefits of our mass participation session held at Blackburn Cathedral on 18th September.
East Lancashire Big Health Day
Another eye opener for the audiences at this health and wellbeing themed day. Held at Hyndburn Leisure Centre on 2nd October.
Carers Festival
DanceSyndrome performed extracts from our Nutcracker inspired piece “Confinement” at this celebration of carers, held at St Johns Minster Preston on 28th November. The piece fit in beautifully with the stunning Church and it gave it a different dynamic, a thoroughly enjoyable performance!!
“The Nutcracker” at Chorley Borough Council
This was the performance that resulted in the conception of “Confinement.” We performed the full piece for the first time at Chorley Town on 5th December as part of
Chorley Sports awards evening. We definitely started the night with a bang and the performance was very well received
UCLan Inclusive Dance Performance
Through our Dance by Example programme, we have developed a partnership with Lisa Simpson, a pioneer in dance and disability. As such we have been invited to perform alongside her as part of an inclusive dance performance at UCLan on 15th December. We have decided to present “Confinement” as we will feel a different dynamic again due to the professional theatre it will be performed in.
